GEO Score is a composite assessment of a brand’s technical readiness for AI discoverability, evaluated by Cited’s Crawl Radar tool. It checks whether a website has the technical prerequisites for AI visibility: schema markup, llms.txt, proper robots.txt configuration, clean HTML structure, and content accessibility for AI crawlers. GEO Score measures readiness, not outcomes — it is distinct from mention rate, which measures whether AI platforms actually mention the brand.

Why it matters

A brand can have excellent content but poor AI visibility if its website blocks AI crawlers, lacks schema markup, or renders content via JavaScript that crawlers cannot parse. GEO Score identifies these technical blockers before a brand invests in content optimization. It answers the question: “Is my website even set up to be discovered by AI platforms?”

How Cited uses it

GEO Score is computed via Crawl Radar probes that simulate AI crawler access to a brand’s website. The scanner checks signal factors across three pillars: Accessibility (can AI crawlers reach and parse the content?), Readability (is the content structured for easy extraction?), and Understandability (does structured data help AI interpret the content?). GEO Score is available as a free tool on getcited.in and as a batch scanning capability for content pipeline data.
  • Schema markup — one of the key factors GEO Score evaluates
  • llms.txt — another technical factor in the GEO Score assessment
  • Crawl budget — technical discoverability that GEO Score covers
