Mention rate is the percentage of tracked prompts for which an AI platform mentions a brand by name in its generated answer. It is the most fundamental metric in AI visibility measurement — if an AI does not mention your brand, nothing else (citation rate, sentiment, position) applies.Documentation Index

Why it matters
Mention rate answers the simplest question in GEO: does the AI know your brand exists? According to the Cited Index March 2026 edition, the median Indian brand has an 8% mention rate on non-branded category queries. Even top-quartile brands reach only 16%. This makes mention rate the first metric to diagnose and the first to improve. How Cited uses it
Mention rate is the primary metric on every Cited dashboard. It is computed daily from the mention extraction pipeline, reported per platform, per intent type, and overall. The Cited Index publishes percentile benchmarks (p10 through p90) for mention rate across 8 categories. See Mention rate for formula, benchmarks, and detailed analysis.Related concepts
