# Prompt Archetype

> Another name for a prompt's intent type — the six ways Cited classifies how a customer framed their question.

**Prompt archetype** is another name for a prompt's [intent type](/glossary/intent-type) — the way a customer framed their question. Cited classifies prompts into six: problem-first, context-specific, budget-anchored, comparison, recommendation-seeking, and feature-curious.

The term comes from [prompt generation](/methodology/prompt-generation), where the six act as moulds to distribute a library across, so a brand does not end up measured almost entirely on one kind of question. Once prompts exist and are being measured, the dashboard calls the same thing **intent type**.

## Why it matters

Each archetype reflects a genuinely different way customers ask, and produces different visibility patterns. A brand can be well known for the problem it solves and still be absent from head-to-head comparisons — same brand, same category, two different content gaps.
